"Project: Organization" Day 7-Computer

Let's leave the kitchen for now. It should look really good, except for maybe a secretary's desk (We'll approach that later if we have time). I thought we'd spend our time today working on the computer. Sometimes I wonder what it was like for our parents and grandparents who didn't have the stress of the computer. Don't get me wrong, I love mine! But it also brings chaos and stress to my life when the inbox gets flooded and my files are in disarray.

Let's first tackle your inbox. Go ahead and delete anything that you really don't need. Print anything that you need to keep (but need it in another location like your recipe binder or files). You don't have time right now to respond to emails-so don't get distracted. Just make a folder and label it "Needs Responses" or something like that. Then you can easily come back when you have a couple minutes, and shoot off any emails that are stacked up.

I use Outlook for my email. I love the folders on the left hand side. That's what keeps me organized. I have several folders, like "College" (Don't need that one anymore!), "Work", "Confirmations" (all those emails you get when you order online), "Addresses" (when friends send me updated addresses but I don't have time to update my books, I put the emails in there).

Once you've gotten your email done, if you have time, organize "My Documents" (or whatever you call it). I have mine organized for everything in my life: School, Work, Church, etc. Then I break down each of those. Under "Church", I have the different auxillaries: YW, RS, Primary. And then I break those down into the callings I've had. I love the fact that you have as many folders as you want!

Ok, if you don't have problems organizing these, let's move on to digital pictures! Wait, second thought, let's not! If you're like me, this one is going to take a day all to itself. So resist the temptation to look at pictures and we'll get back to this...

If you still have time, clean up your "favorites" folder. I know there are links sitting in there that you haven't looked at in ages. Here again, I have folders in "my favorites". I have "general crafts", "scrapbooking", "Home maintanence", "Family/friend blogs", "vacation", etc. Having too many folders has never killed anyone-well, at least not that I know of.

Last, if you're desktop is screaming with folders and files, let's tidy that up. We want to sit down and look at our monitor and feel peace, not an overwhelming desire to pull out our hair!

Ok, now just take our your trash and you're done-delete all spam, junk, and "deleted items" and then dump that "recycle bin". Ahhhh....can you feel that stress just rolling off your back? Are you now getting stir crazy, wanting to surf the web and download new stuff? Don't do it! Focus here...we're halfway through with our project. I can see success at the end of the tunnel for us!

Keep up the good work. It's totally worth it in the end!

PS-Thanks for all the recipes....they are making my mouth water...wonder if I can eat three dinners in one day, just so I can try it all out....hehe...good thing they weren't all desserts-I'd be tied up in bed with a belly ache!
